Full description

This immaculate Lotus 23B is professionally prepared and absolutely ready to race. It also has the benefit of extensive history from new – which is rare amongst 23Bs

Chassis Number 23B-S-84 was purchased by John Romanes (founder of Ingliston Race Circuit) in April 1963. It was first raced at Silverstone on 11th May 1963 at the International Trophy, and raced again at Snetterton where Romanes is believed to have had an accident. The Lotus was subsequently purchased by Reg Skeels who later sold the car to Alan Ballie. Ballie restored it and sold it to Mike Rowbottom in the Channel Isles where it was used for hillclimbs.

The car was then bought by Alain de Cadenet, who later sold it to Anthony Birchenhough of Dorset Racing Associates.  Anthony campaigned the car throughout Europe before selling it to Colin Storm in February 2004. In 2008 the car was purchased by John Arnold, who had an accident at Goodwood which was repaired by Simon Hadfield.  It was purchased by the current owner  in November 2009, who commissioned a full nut and bolt rebuild by Lotus specialist Pat Thomas at Kelvedon Lotus.

The Lotus has since been raced in HSCC Guards Trophy events (2010-2013) and competed at two Goodwood Revivals (2011 and 2016) as well as the Goodwood Members Meeting and Speedweek. During this time the car was prepared and maintained by specialists Lanan Racing. It has only been used three times since 2013 and is in immaculate condition, having recently been checked over by GTS Motorsport.

Fitted with a strong Racing Fabrications engine producing 180 bhp and 163 lbs/ft torque. The gearbox has been fully maintained by JP and all safety equipment is in date.  The current HTP expires in December 2026.

The car will be supplied with comprehensive folders containing detailed history and invoices for work carried out by the current and previous owners. Also an extensive spares package including spare bodywork and the old original damaged chassis with matching AM number.
