Full description
Offered here is a road-registered, MGB racer that was built in 2001 from an original 1964 road car. The work was carried out by Doug Smith of MG Motorsport who are highly regarded as one of the top builders of MGB competition cars with Doug’s cars undoubtedly some of the most competitive in the UK.
In current ownership since it was built, the MG has been professionally prepared and run by Martin Stretton Racing with no expense spared keeping the car race-ready to their normal high standards. Purchased as a family project, it was initially raced by the owner and his two sons at the 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps, proving one of the fastest MGBs at this well-attended endurance event and has subsequently enjoyed success at Gentleman Drivers and Equipe GTS events, both here and in Europe.
Attractively finished in Bugatti French Blue and sitting on modern Minilite alloys, it was initially built to FIA-spec, however, the current papers have expired as they were not required for Equipe races and consequently lapsed, but renewal should be straightforward. The car has never been damaged and the shell is in excellent condition. It’s supplied with a matching hardtop.
The most recent 1850 cc engine rebuild was by Malcolm at TPS Engineering to his latest specification for the 2022 season and has low race time since, as the car was not raced in 2023. There are details of the TPS build-spec in the car’s extensive history file alongside invoices from Martin Stretton Racing detailing all the work carried out by them.
Road-registered, very well presented and highly competitive in the right hands, this versatile MGB has given the owner and his family immense pleasure over the years offering great value for money and a guaranteed welcome at many Classic and Historic Motorsport events. Viewing is available by appointment at Martin Stretton Racing and interested parties are encouraged to find out more about this classic MG racer.
