Full description
Motorsport Showroom are delighted to present to the market, on behalf of its private owner, this race-prepared, Mk1 Austin Cooper ‘S’ recreation. The current custodian bought the Mini as a rust free 40,000-mile, automatic road car with the intention of turning it into a pure ‘Cooper S’ race car a few years ago.
The work was carried out over the winter of 1999/2000 and once completed, the Mini has been raced successfully by the same gentleman ever since. During his 24 years of ownership, the car has won 2 Championships overall with 6 wins, 15 other podiums, and 75 class wins racing in HSCC events, the Top Hat at the Silverstone Classic, Barry Sidery-Smith rounds, and trips to Spa Francorchamps.
It is also worth noting that the owner used the services of marque expert, Nick Swift, in the early part of the cars racing career, to help set the car up.
The specification is impressive and is listed below:
· Fitted with a 1290cc, short-stroke, Swiftune full-race engine with 138bhp seen on Swiftune’s Dyno after the last refresh. Just 6.5 running hours since.
· Race-prepared cylinder head (dry-decked) and engine block with a full race cam, steel con rods and a steel, short-stroke crankshaft.
· Close-ratio, straight-cut, dog gearbox, lightweight flywheel and race clutch, limited- slip diff, Hardy Spicer UJs and Swiftune drive shafts.
· Luminition ignition, 45 DCOE Weber carburettor, and 2” Maniflow exhaust system,3-into-2-into-1 with megaphone and silencer.
· Swiftune alloy fuel tank with battery box.
·The race seat (undated) is from a Porsche and was donated by Barry Williams from a Porsche reparation team (Barry raced the Mini a few times alongside the owner).
·Belts in date until 2027 and the fire extinguisher has just been serviced and will be current for the next two years.
·The 6-point roll-cage by Rollcentre Racing (now Safety Devices) is fitted with an additional bar for securing the shoulder harness straps.
·There are 6 alloy Minilite wheels with Dunlop CR65 tyres, 2 as good as new having only run for 45 minutes in the wet.
·The suspension is fully adjustable with Hi-Lo-style ride height adjustment, Koni/Swiftune fully adjustable shock absorbers and toe, camber and caster adjustment for all 4 wheels.
·All wheels have ‘drop stops’. An anti-roll bar is fitted to the rear as supplied by Jonathan Lewis’ Speedshop. The front rubber suspension cones are competition spec as supplied by Swiftune and the rears are supplied by Mini Spares.
·The bonnet and boot lid are fibreglass and the doors have ally skins. The doors, boot lid and bonnet from the original car are available, as is a limited collection of new parts.
This fabulous Mini offers access into some of the best club Historic Motorsport available including the CTCRC Pre-66, HSCC, CSCC and HRSR championships. The car was last raced at the Walter Hayes closed wheel race at Silverstone on the 4th of November 2023 where it finished 17th overall and 3rd in class. The owner tells us that, with just a thorough spanner check, the car should be ready to go and enjoy a variety of fun options in 2024.
