Full description
The DeTomaso Pantera was to be instrumental in propelling De Tomaso from eccentric, niche producer to a fully-fledged, high-volume supercar brand. But more than this, it also challenged the car conventions of the day with its striking looks, unibody construction, mid-engine layout, American V8 performance and relatively affordable price tag.
The car on offer here – chassis number 2334 – has been part of an extensive restoration project spanning more than a decade. It’s a fully-fledged race car for the road which pays homage to the Group 4 LeMans race car of the mid 1970s. It’s stunning to look at, sensational to drive and incredibly well put together with a careful and considered approach to the whole car. It also contains all the elements necessary to put the car straight into historic racing, should you wish to do so. The car also comes with a very valuable cherished registration - details of which can be discussed upon request.
Inspired by the ‘Team Claude Dubois Le Mans’ car, the livery is considered to be one of the nicest looking examples that raced at the legendary circuit in period and was carefully chosen for this car. It heightens the huge road presence the Pantera already brings and is instantly recognisable: Red and Black bodywork, Gold Campagnolo Wheels, White Pantera side decals and various other motorsport decals all over the car. The doors, bonnet and deck lid are all constructed of Carbon Fibre for ultimate weight-saving.
The car’s engine is a bespoke-built commission from Jeff Raeburn in the USA and the full build sheet is available on request. It includes an aluminium Ford Motorsports block, an 850hp Holley Carburettor, a Mcleod Aluminium flywheel with double disc 8-inch clutch and custom racetec forged pistons. It’s good for 566bhp and when combined with its incredible weight of just 1,149kg it results in a power-to-weight ratio of 492bhp/tonne. A figure that on paper means this Pantera is more powerful per tonne than a Lamborghini Aventador SVJ Roadster, a Lamborghini Aventador SV and a Ferrari SF90 Stradale!
Inside, the cabin is completely stripped out for ultimate weight saving and complete race car feel. There’s a Carbon Fibre Super Lightweight Tillet race seat for the driver and a GRP seat for the passenger which is easily removable at any point. The centre console consists of a range of switchgear that is home to the start switch, fuel pump, 2 x engine cooling fans, wipers, foglights, horn, hazard lights and USB ports too. The steering wheel is removable.
There is a phenomenal file of history with this car and it’s a fantastic example of one of Italy’s most iconic supercars. Ready to race or ready to live on the road, this Pantera is available right now. If you have any questions about the car please don’t hesitate to contact us.
