Guide Price: £85,000 - £95,000
On offer here is a well known and very competitive car having been campaigned regularly and successfully in the UK historic racing scene. The Mk II Capri was built by Dave Weir, a member of the original team as an homage to the car raced so successfully in 1974 and '75 by Holman Blackburn and Mike Crabtree. Holman Blackburn was consulted about several aspects of the cars build and presentation and in conjunction with Dave Weir's memory this impressive Capri is pretty much an exact replica of the original. It's currently presented in its period livery when sponsors Hermetite and Black and Decker contributed to the budget and the paint scheme and decals have all been correctly replicated.

The car's current owner, our vendor, bought the car from Dave Weir unused in 2017 and has subsequently taken part in more than 25 races with excellent results including numerous wins in the Tony Dron Series run by Motor Racing Legends. The car was also invited to the last two Goodwood Members Meetings for the Gerry Marshall races and, we understand, has also just been invited to the 80th Goodwood Members meeting taking place in April 2023. Please note that interested parties will need to check with Goodwood if this entry can be transferred to the car's new owner.
The engine that's currently fitted was treated to a new Ric Wood block in mid-2022 and has only been run for a couple of hours since then. On its last outing at Castle Combe it secured pole position ahead of some stiff opposition and since that meeting the gearbox has been rebuilt with new Quaife components. The car has been prepared and run by the well-respected, Dorset-based, TT Motors Racing Ltd. who know and understand how to get the best out these cars and this Capri is a credit to them. Competition cars tend to have a hard life and inevitably attract a few 'battle scars', however, this cracking Capri appears almost immaculate with an engine bay that looks 'showroom fresh'. As with any competition car, it's appropriate to check the currency and validity of any safety equipment, cage, belts, seats, tanks, extinguishers etc., but looking at the remarkable standard of preparation evident throughout the car, we imagine that will all be in hand. Full details of the Capri's build spec will be available to interested parties.
Included with the car is a lovely bound book detailing the Capri's build with a letter from Holman Blackburn containing some history of the original car. Offering access to some of the best Historic Motorsport on the European scene, and seemingly ticking all the right boxes, this looks like a very tempting proposition indeed.
