We are pleased to offer this awesome class-winning Pontiac Firebird that enthralled the crowd at the Silverstone Classic in 2021 driven by historic race car exponent Michael Lyons.
The car was originally raced in the USA wearing the iconic Coca Cola livery, which it still sports today, by Duane Smith and was imported to the UK in the eighties by the late Brian Chatfield.
Built around a Huffaker Engineering/Chassis Dynamics spaceframe and, characteristically for IMSA, Dzus fastened panels, it represents an incredible opportunity to race at the front end of any HSCC event for a realistic outlay.
The small-block 6.5-litre Chevrolet engine was totally rebuilt with many new parts (all detailed in the Mass Engines invoice for £15.995.48 from October 2018) and, at the same time, a new clutch assembly was fitted. It has only done two 20-minute races since then. Included is a dyno test printout showing 610bhp and 550ft.lbs of torque. It has a SAENZ Performance gearbox, recognised as the unit for 'Professional' seriously powerful eighties V8s, and the final drive is quick change and comes with various gear sets. It will be supplied with nine spare wheels offering all the options for mounted race tyres and wets.
With healthy options and the HSCC Thundersports/Classic Thunder, this incredible IMSA GTO is a genuine crowd pleaser and should be welcome at any motorsport event. We would not be alone wishing to see it back for the Silverstone Festival in August.
