Chassis #V21/D2/01 is one of just five cars constructed by Italtecnica for the works Team Peugeot Talbot, purpose-built for the demanding conditions of the Italian Super Touring Championship seasons in 1993 and 1994, which was essentially the Italian version of the BTCC (British Touring Car Championship). Fitted with the highly strung 1.9-litre 16-valve four-cylinder engine, the 1993 season had seen Giovanardi in a fierce battle for the championship title with CiBiEmme Engineering BMW driver Roberto Ravaglia, a contest that ended with Giovanardi finishing just seven points behind Ravaglia after notching up an impressive five victories. In the intense 1994 season, Giovanardi clinched podium finishes seven times, ultimately finishing third overall.
This historic racer, with its rich history, has undergone a comprehensive rebuild and restoration by the renowned Owens Fabrication Company and every aspect, both mechanical and cosmetic, has been meticulously addressed, leaving no stone unturned in the quest for perfection. Mechanically, the car boasts an impressive list of new and rebuilt components including a new camshaft, flywheel, clutch kit, bushings, rebuilt differential, driveshafts, gearbox, valves, radiators, fans, sensors, bulbs, fuel and oil lines with braided hoses, injectors, and coil.
Cosmetically, the car has undergone a complete transformation with a meticulous strip-down and repaint, adorned with a fresh, period-correct livery resulting in a visually stunning and historically authentic representation of the Peugeot 405 Super Touring car from the period.
Last seen in action in the 2021 HSCC Dunlop Saloon Car Cup, this Supertourer reportedly is ready to go and will be offered with fresh FIA papers. It's eligibile for various prestigious championships, including CTRC Super Tourers, Masters Touring Cars, Peter Auto, Youngtimers, and numerous historic racing events worldwide, making it a sought after gem for the 2024 season. Whether thrilling enthusiasts on the track or adding to a historic racing Collection, this Peugeot 405 Super Touring car stands as a testament to an era of intense competition and engineering excellence and we invite and encourage your close inspection.
