Technical info
Full description
The GT40 was Ford’s challenge to Ferrari’s dominance of the Word Sportscar Championship. Bolstered by Carroll Shelby’s input, the marque won the overall Constructors’ title in 1966 and achieved an iconic 1-2-3 finish at Le Mans. Today original Ford GT40s are worth several millions, and for many considered to be too valuable to race.
Superformance produce the only officially sanctioned continuation model GT40, Carroll Shelby having given them permission to construct officially designated GT40/P numbered chassis. These are produced to either road or competition configuration, and the latter have been granted HTP papers and competed successfully in historic motorsport, including at Goodwood.
Chassis number GT40 P/2088-R is a competition Mark 1 to 1964 specification. Originally commissioned in 2014 it was completed in 2017 but has never been used. Effectively a new car, this example has an impressive specification including an FIA specification Holman Moody 289 race engine and RBT Transmissions ZF transaxle, and a six-point factory installed roll cage. Chassis 2088 is believed to require only relatively minor tweaks to achieve HTP and some updating of its safety equipment to be race ready. A remarkable opportunity.
