HWRT 1987 001 was built upon a new 3 door Cosworth shell for the 1987 season. The German Wolf Racing team used two cars in selected races of the European Touring Car Championship as well as the World Touring Car championship. The cars started out as RS Cosworth’s and were upgraded to RS500 spec after the 24h of Spa-Francorchamps. At this moment it is not clear which car was entered in what race, but at the ETCC round the Österreichring as well as the WTCC round at Spa-Francorchamps both cars were on track. Other races that saw participation from Wolf racing were WTCC rounds at the Nürburgring, Brno and Silverstone. As well as the ETCC races at Zolder and Nogaro. Next to these international championships Wolf Racing also entered three DTM rounds in Germany at Diepholz, the Salzburgring and the at the Hockenheimring. Wolf Racing used two different liveries in 1987, the well known Würth livery and a Barclay coloured one.

HWRT 1987 001 went under the radar for some years but turned up again in 1991 when German Obermann racing team was looking for a RS500 to replace their crashed car. HWRT 1987 001 was bought as a rolling shell and built up again by the Obermann team. They used the car in the 1991 and 1992 VLN seasons. After this HWRT 1987 001 was put in storage for for a long time and eventually painted blue. The plan was to race the car again, now with a V6 engine, but as far as known this never evolved.
Long term RS500 enthusiast Martin Johnston eventually bought HWRT 1987 001 and started a sympathetically restoration. The livery that was selected was the 1988 DTM livery, although the car never raced in these colours in period. The car should be in the 87 Wurth livery as shown in the period pictures, this is easy to change as its mainly just the numbers and other minor changes.
This is a great car, as mentioned in the video this has all the top spec components fitted like alloy rear arms and Eggenberger spec front uprights etc, so a very high (Works spec) car
This is offered at a very reasonable price due to the owner wishing to move it on and invest in other things.
This is a great chance to own a period car that is on the button and other than spanner checking, and oils changed it is ready to go and have some fun in next year’s historic series here and in Europe
Please remember if you are an overseas buyer that the pound is at a low level and so makes this an even better buy while we are at this point.
