- Extraordinarily rare—a perfect race suit for any Le Mans or Porsche enthusiast
Jacky Ickx’s career is one of extraordinary moments and milestones, and the Belgian is widely regarded as one of the greatest drivers of all time. Today, Ickx is most famous for his remarkable tally of six overall victories at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The Brussels-born driver was highly competitive in Formula 1 too, finishing 2nd in the Drivers’ Championship twice and competing for teams including Scuderia Ferrari. Among Ickx’s greatest moments was his famous walk across the grid during the start of the 1969 24 Hours of Le Mans, in protest of the dangerous setting-off procedure—incredibly, despite leaving last, he and Jackie Oliver won the race.
This race suit, made by Sparco for the legendary Rothmans Porsche team, is believed to have been worn by Jacky Ickx during the 1985 World Sportscar Championship, his final season before retirement. Finished in the unmistakable Rothmans colours, the suit is further adorned with Hertz sponsorship to honour a personal deal with Ickx. During this period it was usual for drivers to use suits several times throughout a season, so examples such as this are incredibly rare. Any Rothmans Porsche race suit is almost never made available for sale, making this a unique opportunity to acquire a storied suit worn by one of the greatest drivers of one of the most iconic cars in the 100-year history of Le Mans.
