Technical info

Full description

The Imperial was, for decades, the crowning achievement in Chrysler’s offerings. The top-of-the-line Chrysler rivalled Cadillac, Lincoln, and even Deusenburg by pushing the limits of luxury and speed throughout its decades of production. The sixth generation Imperial, introduced in 1949, was based on the Chrysler New Yorker and featured many upgraded styling cues in addition to a custom interior. Though primarily focused on luxury and comfort, Chrysler introduced a number of industry firsts in their Imperial line. With the first commercially available power disk brakes, as well as the first car in over a decade to offer air conditioning, the Imperial was years ahead of the competition.

This 1954 Chrysler Imperial has covered a credible 43,000 miles from new and is finished in striking black with a beautiful contrasting blue interior (unique to the Imperial line). The interior upholstery is in excellent condition with few signs of age. This vehicle remains in excellent mechanical condition and glides over the road with the same luxury and grace one would expect from the pinnacle of the 1950s American auto industry. The exterior of the car shows very well with some light signs of use / patina commensurate with age, though it presents extremely well and looks very imposing on the road. Both front and rear bench seats are immaculate, and all interior brightwork looks as it did in the showroom, however the carpets appear original and would benefit from replacement. The interior is brimming with up-market details peculiar to that period – eg the thin-rimmed, chrome-spoked steering wheel, the central button of which is colourfully labelled ‘Power Steering’; the engine-turned instrument surround; and facia-mounted push-button radio. Other items of note are the factory blue-tinted windows, white-walled tyres and distinctive bonnet mascot.

This is a car of real presence that is fully UK registered, with all taxes / duties paid. Maintained regardless of cost, it has recently been treated to a reconditioned steering box, re-trim of the door cards, a full mechanical service and re-plating of that colossal front bumper (at enormous cost!).
